Istikhara

Seeking the good in every decision

When the path ahead isn't clear, turn to the One who knows what is best. Request an Istikhara with Prof. Zameer Hassan.

What is Istikhara?

A Sunnah for asking Allah to choose for you

Istikhara means "seeking what is good". It is a prayer and dua taught by the Prophet ﷺ, in which a believer asks Allah to make a matter easy if it is good for them, and to turn it away if it is not.

It is not fortune-telling, and the outcome is always in Allah's hands. Prof. Zameer Hassan will listen to your situation, perform Istikhara on your behalf, and share his understanding with honesty and care. You are also encouraged to pray it yourself.

The Prophet ﷺ used to teach us Istikhara in all matters, just as he would teach us a surah of the Qur'an.

Jabir ibn Abdullah (RA) — Sahih al-Bukhari

The Dua of Istikhara

After praying two rak'ahs of voluntary prayer, recite this dua and mention your matter where indicated.

O Allah, I seek Your guidance through Your knowledge, and I seek ability through Your power, and I ask You of Your immense favour. For You are able and I am not; You know and I do not, and You are the Knower of the unseen. O Allah, if You know that this matter is good for me in my religion, my livelihood and the outcome of my affairs, then decree it for me, make it easy for me, and bless it for me. And if You know that this matter is bad for me in my religion, my livelihood and the outcome of my affairs, then turn it away from me and turn me away from it, and decree for me what is good wherever it may be, and make me content with it.
